gluing the 5 layers together
To start making my bandsaw box the first thing I had to do was use the miter saw to cut the dimensioned pieces of wood that i needed to make my layers. After they were cut I used wood glue and clamps on top of popsicle sticks so that I could hold the wood together while preventing damage to the box.
After I finished gluing the layers together I used the bandsaw to cut off majority of the uneven sides using a fence to guide me to make a straight cut and then sanded the block to make it all the sides smooth and even.
this is what the backside looked like after cutting
Once I had my block ready I cut about a 1/4 of an inch off the back of the block to put back on later for the drawers. I also taped a paper that had my design of the box on to the front of the block of wood. I then cut out the bottom, trimmed the sides, and then curved the top.
This is the side of the box after i did another cut to make the 4 legs.
Once I finished cutting I did a bit of redesigning by changing the bottom from 2 long legs into 4 legs and decided to make one big drawer because it would be deeper and save me some time cutting.
Drawer is not perfectly center
After that I used a straight edge to do a sketch of were and how big I wanted the drawer to be. When I began cutting I made a error and this caused me to make the drawer uneven on my box. I then used clamps, glue, and popsicles sticks again to glue the cut on the box back shut.
Once I got the section cutout I cut the front and back off that piece of wood for the drawer. I then did a ruff sketch with pencil on the remaining piece of wood to get a cutout that left the bottom and sides for the drawer. After all the cutting was completed I glued the drawer back together.
cutting the knob
gluing the crack shut
I noticed there was a crack on the piece I cut off the back so I glued it shut to prevent the leg from snapping. While I was waiting for it to dry I took a piece of scrap wood and used the bandsaw to cut out a section I could use for a drawer knob and I used sandpaper to make it round.
I glued the knob onto the drawer and did some final sanding to it and the box. I then began staining the box and the drawer with the stain I had on hand.
Once the box was done drying I looked over it to make sure there was no excessive damage or no missed spots for staining. I was then finished with my box and just had to make sure my drawer was still working.
