Anthony Mayberry is an economist and research leader whose career spans corporate economic strategy, applied econometrics, and academic research. He has built and led economic intelligence functions at Amazon and Walmart, designing the forecasting models, causal analyses, and strategic frameworks that senior executives use to guide billion-dollar decisions on workforce strategy, compensation, and operations.
At Amazon, Dr. Mayberry served as the lead macroeconomist responsible for sub-national labor market forecasting across 40+ countries, directly informing wage-setting and capacity planning for over one million associates. At Walmart, he led the People Science economics function, managing a team of data scientists building the econometric and ML infrastructure used to guide workforce decisions for the world's largest private employer.
Dr. Mayberry maintains a productive research agenda alongside his industry work. He has published in the Journal of Comparative Economics and Defence and Peace Economics, with additional papers under review or in progress on topics including macroeconomic forecasting, labor market policy, international sanctions, and the economics of political instability. He has presented his research at the RAND Corporation, the U.S. Office of the Secretary of Defense, and multiple international conferences on defense and security economics.
His independent research initiative, Project Prism, is developing a 50-variable Bayesian VAR framework for probabilistic sub-national economic forecasting with AI-driven scenario generation — designed to bring institutional-quality macroeconomic intelligence to state and local decision-makers.
Dr. Mayberry received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Oklahoma in 2022.
