Anthony Mayberry is an economist at Amazon with the People Experience and Technology (PXT) HR Central Science (CS) team. In this role, he specializes in applied econometrics, studying both macroeconomic and microeconomic fluctuations in the Amazon labor market. For more than 2 years, Dr. Mayberry was a lead macroeconomist on a team dedicated to forecasting sub-national labor markets in the U.S. and the more than 40 countries where Amazon operates. He conducted a number of studies examining labor market tightness, local inflationary pressures, and the impact of starting wages on recruiting. More recently, Dr. Mayberry has worked as an applied economist studying safety practices in the warehousing and transportation industry.
Dr. Mayberry's primary academic research focus is on the causes and consequences of militarism where he takes a comparative approach to understanding the determinants of economic growth across countries. His work on macroeconomic defense topics has been published in the Journal of Comparative Economics and Defence and Peace Economics. Recently, he has studied the economic impact of nuclear deterrence and military conscription on economic growth.
Dr. Mayberry received his Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma in 2022. Before joining Amazon PXTCS, he was a graduate researcher for a $730,000 grant from the NASA Land-Cover and Land-Use Change (LCLUC) program focused on studying the economic, political, and health challenges brought on by rapid urbanization in Kazakhstan.
