Understand Research Sketch Design Implement Evaluate
Artist are bombarded with new art communities platforms and social sites they can share their artwork on. Currently the art sites are all silos that require an artist go through a posting process for each site individually. The process is redundant and time consuming. A deterrent from joining and maintaining multiple sites.
Sites need users to grow and maintain their presence. The market has already shown that cross posting is the way to go, but the use of API are limited and building one for a site is expensive. It’s also not always capable of covering complex variations and requirements for posting content.
Target Demographic
As an artist I know the issues first hand, but I pulled a survey on Deviant art and logged the social digital footprint of 20 random artist from Artstation, Deviant art and Behance. Here is what I found:
Avg artist belongs to minimal of 3 social/art sites
73% of surveyed artist prefer using API to cross-post art content
80% of surveyed artist feel managing multiple accounts is the #1 reason the don't
join sites
Among a pull of the content uploading process for 10 different art sites, the avg number of information fields and selections was 8.
Each time an art piece is uploaded, it requires anywhere between 45 seconds to 4 min. to complete the process
Currently no art community sites have API or mechanisms to help artist cross post artwork into their site.
Keep the mobile features simple. Use desktop UI for more complex account configurations
App admins will need a UI to manage users, data and accounts
Images take up a lot of space access to a cloud storage management for user uploads on mobile devices
Data table and server will need to handle high volume usage. Search and sort feature will be needed. Minimize the allowed file types to reduce errors rate
To address the needs of the artist I had to design two UI. One to set up and manage their accounts that connect to the post it app. and one to handle the actual posting.
To address the needs of Art site. They need to be able register as a participant and provide their consent and posting fields or API
To manage the system, admins will need a UI
I kept the navigation simple breaking down the primary function purposes into their own sections. With similar screen designs and layouts, I used a set of formats the help reduce the users learning curb for how to use each section or expectations on the contents placement.
The whole point of the app is to reduce the redundancy of posting. So I kept the efforts to reduce redundancy when designing the UX.
Users can set edit and save their account information for each site into the app. The app run an exe. program to post to all locations selected by the artist and notify the artist when its done.
Users can view the history of postings and copy-paste-modify the posting information for a new posting.
Users can set times for the posting to occur
At first I was only considering the ease of use to Inspire more users to join sites through the use of the post it app. but during research process, I realized that a lot of the sites, especially new ones need help with exposure to let people know they exist to join in the first place. So I decided to use the apps platform to promote sites to users as well.
Sites can post their information, an about us description and link to their site into the app. This information will show up in the users membership section that shows a current list of the sites they belong to or ones that exist which they can join.
With the advertising element, the ecosystem between users and sites can work together the bring awareness and increase user presence.. users can favorite their sites so if they don't want to join immediately, they can find them again easily. A rating system helps users with feedback on sites much like other apps use rating systems.
User sign up needs to be kept simple or the user wont use the app or skip onboarding all together. Since signing up for the sites is a separate task, I set it to only add basics info for their post it account and have them select a few sites they belong to.
After that, it would drop into a post walkthrough based on their selection. The app will have a built in default image that it will post as the first test posting to a site. This will double as a testing mechanism and advertising tool for the app.
After that, the user can go through the app. So not to annoy the user, they can turn on/off the “test post” after the first posting a site.
I would approach the current top art sites to run advertisement then reach out to their departments to coordinate implementation efforts.
Embed all the existing API for sites that already use cross posting methods. Since members still have to create accounts with each site, this would reduce how much the art sites and social sites have to do to get on board.
Next, launch a beta version to see how the system handles the volume usage with traffic into the server. Give Developer team a chance to make adjustments as needed.
If all goes well, make the needed adjustments then watch users habits and set analytic to track usage.
With the inclusion of a app feedback and survey program embedded in the program. We can generate direct feedback from the users.
We can also Include tracking metrics that measure the number of "join it clicks" each art site / social site receive in the app to see how effective advertising their presence on the app is.
