Men-U Application

UX / UI Design
Originally the thought was inspired by visiting a restaurant and seeing a kiosk at the table.
First thought, they should have the menu on here, Its periodically changing and cost money to print so many. Go digital was a nice Idea, But when asked the question how would it help the guest who use it at a restaurant...That's where the UX problem solving had to take over. Find the value for restaurants and Patrons.
Patrons can more efficiently figure out what and where they want to eat.
Diner Finding the viewpoint of patrons was easy among friends and family. Q&A followed by a series of dinning out experiences at different restaurants helped me gather first hand understanding of the dinners perspective.
Figuring out what they want to eat.
Figuring out where they want to go.
Ordering the food and paying for it.
It doesn't happen in that order all the time, but they are a constant in the process. Allowing that to happen conveniently in the same place through an app was the objective for the patrons.
Business spend a lot of money on printing and reprinting menus. Having websites that offer information on businesses location and food items already. A digital menu is the next logical step.
Accommodating changes to menu information
Creating interactive elements that make the staffs jobs easier.
Eating Out: A menus purpose
I built personas for the three demographic key user types. Each helped to guild features to create and consider during prototype design
Finding the viewpoint of patrons use of menus was easy among friends and family. Wire framing a few view templates that handled, search, menu view, Notification covered the top three things diners would use the app for.
The primary staff members include servers/(bartenders), cooks, and managers.
Streamlining communication and tracking of orders from when they are taken to when they are served to dinners is the primary incentive that touches each of these
Admins care about being able to set up monitor and manage content/usage.
The managers are seen as the ideal demographic for this, however authority for this handling this app could easily be delegated to someone in the restaurant .
While recording information and managing access based on authority may require an account, viewing a menu fundamentally should not. Have to figure out a way for users to be able to view menu even without an account
The ability to assign id to specific restaurants and location is critical for the apps use. All users need to be able to find a specific restaurants menu among many quickly and efficiently.
To keep the innovation Learning curb down, menu items are broken into categories with items under each. Leveraging the tradition organization/search habits of printed menus. Admins can manage the labels, images and classifications.
To help streamline order process, the order selections made by diners can be recorded and transferred with comments to the servers tablet device. Servers can then either print the order off for the cooks or load it into an“order Q” UI that displays the information for the cooks to see.
While testing each feature implemented from problem solving through Hypothesis, Trial with a few restaurants would be ideal, 1 small medium and large. See how the order process is handled at different scales.
I would split it into a 4 part testing ground:
Patrons ordering food
Servers receiving, modifying and processing orders to the kitchen/bar
admins creating menus
Patrons searching for restaurants and browsing their menus
Although digital environment offers new ways to do things, incorporating traditional non-digital user habits can improve user acceptance rate and reduce learning curb.
Not everything needs to be discarded when moving print media items into apps. Some establishments may not carry all the tech capacity to accommodate the system. Accessibility to print options needs to be considered.
