On Sunday, January 11, I experienced one of the most unforgettable moments of my life. When I walked out of Roxas Airport, I saw a big welcome banner prepared for us. It already felt like a strong sign that Capiz State University is really welcomed us with open arms..
I saw Ma’am Grace, Ma'am Angeline, and my buddies there, waving their hands with bright smiles. At that moment, I didn’t feel like a stranger in a foreign country. I felt like I had arrived at my second home..
On Monday, I went to CAPSU Main Campus and was introduced to the faculty members. Ma’am Hazel (the outgoing dean) warmly introduced me to everyone. They were all so kind and welcoming that I almost forgot I was far from home. I also observed some classrooms that day. I watched how the students learned and interacted. I felt amazed once again by the learning environment and the enthusiasm of the students.
Tuesday was a very special day for me. It was the first time SEA Teacher participants were included in the Pinning Ceremony at CAPSU Main Campus.
In the Philippines, a Pinning Ceremony is a meaningful event for pre-service teachers. It symbolizes the beginning of their internship journey. The pin represents responsibility, commitment, and dedication to the teaching profession. It is often combined with a Candle Lighting Ceremony, symbolizing the light of knowledge that teachers bring to their students. The College of Education (COED) at Capiz State University (CAPSU) Roxas City Main Campus held its 4th Pinning and Candle Lighting Ceremony on January 13 at the Dadivas Gymnasium.
Dr. Hazel D. Joaquin warmly welcomed everyone and reminded the pre-service teachers about the responsibilities and noble calling they have chosen. CAPSU President Dr. Efren L. Linan and the four vice presidents delivered inspiring messages based on the theme:
“Igniting Excellence and Service: Shaping Globally Competitive and Socially Responsible Future Teachers.”
The guest speaker, Dr. Joel Arroyo, principal of Libas Elementary School, shared practical advice and inspiring insights for future educators. That evening, the faculty prepared a welcome dinner for me and my friend Zahra. It was such a heartwarming moment.
On Thursday, we attended the Opening Ceremony at the auditorium of Roxas Main Campus. In the afternoon, we had courtesy visits to:
The Mayor’s Office (LGU)
DepEd Division Office
Provincial/City Tourism Office
I felt honored and proud to represent my university and country in those important offices..
We traveled to Iloilo City to present ourselves to CHEDRO VI (Commission on Higher Education Regional Office VI). After that, we continued our visit to the Bureau of Immigration (BOI) in Iloilo City.
It was a formal and important experience that made me feel like a true international exchange participant.
On Sunday, we were invited by Ma’am Susan and Ma’am Grace to have lunch at Baybay Beach. We enjoyed so much seafood, and I can confidently say that the oysters in Capiz are the best! It was really feels so relaxing and joyful day!
This day was full of happiness. We went to Baybay Beach again and did some souvenir shopping in Roxas City. It was our buddies’ day out, and I felt so happy and free. We laughed a lot, took many pictures, and simply enjoyed each other’s company. I felt grateful for the friendships I built during this program. That day will always remain in my heart...
We had an exciting water tubing activity in Malumpati. It was thrilling and refreshing! I felt nervous and alsoo excited, but it turned into pure fun and laughter. At night, we had a bonfire. Sitting around the fire, sharing stories, answer some question from our lovely coordinators and laughing together made me feel so emotional at that night, I realized how strong our bond had become. It was one of the most beautiful nights of my journey here, in the Philippines.
This was our closing ceremony. I delivered a speech during this meaningful moment. We received our certificates, marking the end of our internship journey.
For the last moment, I met my cooperating teacher, Ma’am Agnes. It was emotional because I knew I had learned so much from her.. not only about teaching, but also about kindness and dedication..
It was such a beautiful closing experience. Traveling together, sharing meals, and visiting different campuses made me realize how wide and strong the CAPSU community is.
I didn’t just bring souvenirs home! But, I brought unforgettable memories, new knowledge, lifelong friendships, and a second family in the Philippines.
This journer will always be a golden chapter in my life.. Thankyou! Maraming Salamat! Terima Kasih..
