CDR Lesane enlisted on 26 May 1998, and entered the Service through the Coast Guard's College Student Pre-commissioning Initiative Program. In May 2000, he was commissioned through Officer Candidate School after receiving his bachelor’s degree in Biology from South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He began his career at Marine Safety Office Philadelphia as a Marine Inspector where he directed the Port State Control maritime vessel program for 2400 vessel arrivals annually in the nation’s 6th busiest port, and 2nd largest oil/chemical port.
In 2005, he transferred to Sector Charleston where he served as the Inspections Division Chief, where he lead training and qualifications and enforced U.S. and International laws in the nation’s 5th largest container port. In 2008, he was assigned as the Chief of Mission Support at the Coast Guard Recruiting Command where he managed two JROTC programs and led all Coast Guard accession programs with the exception of the Coast Guard Academy. In 2012, he was assigned to the Personnel Service Command as a Prevention Assignment Officer, where assigned and provided counsel for 450+ officers annually.
In 2014, CDR Lesane assumed responsibility as the Inspections Division Chief, Sector Maryland-National Capital Region, Baltimore, MD. During this time, Commander Lesane worked with the marine industry to conduct new construction oversight and vessel inspections of U.S. and foreign deep-draft, large cruise ships, and the Coast Guard’s 2nd largest small passenger vessel operating in the Chesapeake Bay and National Capital Region.
Commander Eddie Lesane assumed duties as the Chief, Workforce Capability, located in Washington, D.C., on July 6, 2017. In this capacity, he was responsible for managing the workforce, staffing, and training issues that spanned across 144 Shore Forces Enterprise (SFE) units. The Division developed, promoted, and maintained an initial standardized scalable Sector construct model; and initial staffing, training, and qualification/certification standards that provide programmatic standardization while enabling Sector-specific flexibility.
CDR Lesane retired from the United States Coast July 2021 and assumed the Annapolis High NJROTC SNSI position in August 2021. He wears several decorations, which are all a direct result of the professionalism, dedication, and excellence of the men and women with whom he served. A native of South Carolina, CDR Lesane is married to the former Tonya McKnight and has two daughters, Zaqwondra and Emani.
