Australian Network for Japanese as Community Language
At ANJCL, we use the term Japanese as community language to emphasise language as a lived, shared, and evolving practice, rather than a fixed or countable entity.
ANJCL aims to deepen understanding of Japanese as community language, support the well-being of those who use it in Australia, and contribute to the healthy and sustainable development of communities.
We seek to foster and strengthen communities of children and young people connected to Japan, along with their families and educators. Through our educational and research activities, we provide relevant information and resources to support these communities.
The term KEISHOGO (繋生語) is read the same way as "Keishogo" (継承語), or Heritage Language. "Keishogo" (継承語) plays an important part in the discussion of migrants’ heritage language. KEISHOGO (繋生語) includes the meanings of the term "Heritage Language” (継承語), but also suggests language that can be widely connected, create new meanings, and evolve.
KEISHOGO (繋生語) is defined as the language that is born from connections with parents, family, and friends, and that creates further connections, generates new meanings, and passes these connections on to the next generation.
