When I first started the research, I was initially afraid that I would not be able to do it. I was also uncertain about how much time and effort I will have to put in to create the digital artefact. Along the way, I encountered various problems and was frustrated with the use of complicated functions. I think what enabled me to carry on and not give up was my interest in drawing itself. I don't feel tired when I am focused on the things that I like to do, instead I feel a sense of satisfaction when I was done making the animated sticker.
As it was my first time using Procreate, I was expecting to make some mistakes due to my unfamiliarity with the tools. More evident in the creation of my first animated sticker, I had trouble filling in the colours, filling the entire canvas with orange instead of the portion that I wanted.
Secondly, I faced difficulties when I accidentally deleted some layers and was unable to restore it. I learnt online that I could use a 'lock' function to secure it in place but i was unable to make changes to it in a 'locked' state. However, during my second sticker creation. I realised that I could just press the undo button to retrieve my deleted layer.
Another problem that was solved with a quick online search was the problem of moving elements through lasso select. If the element drawn was too small, it cannot be moved and will be stretched instead. To solve this problem, the canvas had to be zoomed in before the elements can be moved.
As I proceed on to my last sticker, it was considerably easier as I had already planned which tools I was going to use for advanced functions (such as alpha lock) and the number of layers to draw.
The learning process was fraught with challenges but as I continued, I found myself getting familiarised with the tools and improved my digital creativity. I found the course meaningful as it provided me an opportunity to source for new digital skills such as drawing and video editing, helping me step out of my comfort zone. I would like to thank Mr Teo for his patience and guidance in helping students improve their digital knowledge, and my friends for giving me suggestions and being my first audience.
