HIV among older adults
One of my first projects examined the relationship between childhood learning disabilities and HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders. We found that neurocognitive impairment was higher among those reporting depressive symptoms, those reporting cognitive symptoms, and those with a diagnosed childhood learning disability. I am currently working on a qualitative study examining provision of HIV medications in nursing homes, and another looking at sexually transmitted infection testing among adults 50-64 living with HIV.
Infectious disease disparities
I have conducted studies identifying disparities in COVID-19 vaccine uptake, and mentored research of chlamydia disparities among individuals released from incarceration. I recently published findings examining gender-based disparities in HIV durable viral suppression (i.e., the optimal outcome for people with HIV). The goal of this work is to understand where disparities continue to persist in infectious disease prevention and outcomes.
Infectious disease testing
I have conducted studies identifying rates of syphilis and HIV testing in populations underrepresented in research. I also have a recent paper on COVID-19 testing on college campuses. This aspect of my work aims to identify populations who are not being reached by current testing interventions, and for whom additional support may be beneficial.
Infectious disease policies
I have supported research examining enrollment in a study before and after the implementation of incentivized peer-referral, and mentored research around predictors of engagement in expedited partner treatment for chlamydia (i.e., a person who tests positive for chlamydia providing their partners with treatment for chlamydia). I have a recent study examining the impact of restaurant and bar mandates on COVID-19 vaccine uptake, and a study in progress examining school-based mandates on COVID-19 vaccine uptake. The goal of this work is to quantify the impact of various policies on infectious disease outcomes.
Beyond this, I've worked on a number of other projects, including a scoping review on HIV and employment, an investigation on a simian immunodeficiency virus vaccine candidate, and a critical examination of service learning. You can find all my publications below:
