Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Public Health,
Hi! I'm Aneeka (she/her). I'm an assistant professor of Public Health at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where my research interests lie in improving the quality of sexual health care among underserved older adults.
I recently completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at The Roux Institute at Northeastern University. In this role, I use large databases to answer questions about healthcare access and quality among people living with and at risk of HIV. Prior to this, I received my PhD in epidemiology at Tulane University, defending my dissertation entitled COVID-19 Vaccine Effectiveness, Hesitancy, Incentives, and Mandates in the Deep South, in March 2023. I also completed my Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) in Social and Behavioral Interventions at Johns Hopkins University, where I engaged in projects related to HIV risk factors, eHealth interventions for those recently released from incarceration, and female empowerment and nutritional attainment in early childhood, working both domestically and internationally. I also hold a BA in Public Health Studies from Johns Hopkins University.
Beyond my research, I greatly enjoy teaching, developing health communication materials for general audiences, and volunteering with various non-profits. After work, I can often be found outside--hiking, skiing, or rock climbing (see above)-- or taking photo of animals (as you'll see around this site!). Feel free to reach out if you have questions about my work or would like to collaborate!
