The Art of the Press-Fit

Andy Graham combines his years of experience as a machinist and metal fabricator to create works of fine art using press-fitting, or interference-fitting of dissimilar metals.

Working primarily with stainless steel and non-ferrous metals like bronze, aluminum, and copper, Andy uses a hydraulic press to permanently join these materials together, often requiring up to 8-tons of force.

He uses various patina techniques to bring out the contrasting tones of the different materials.
