I believe that natural collections in Ukraine need to be properly preserved. In universities, it is necessary to add subjects in which students will learn to work with collections. Today, most students do not know how to work with it. They do not want to work in this field at all.
I hope natural history collections will be enriched, kept and passed for the next generations. There will be more people involved in work with biodiversity data making it open and free to access in the near future. I'm looking for appreciation of the natural history collections among people, institutions and government.
Ukraine hosts a bunch of institutions dealing with biodiversity collections and schools of museum curators: DMLU (1854), KUMN (1807), SIZK (1919), KW (1921), NMNHK (1966). The sustainable existence of the museums requires funds to make workflow upgraded to unified modern standards (e.g. IDIGBIO) and collection maintenance and growing of new generation curators.
