About the Prize

Andriy Novikov Prize is an annual prize established for Ukrainian scientists who help make data on scientific natural history collections openly and freely available.

11000 UAH

Eligibility

  • Ukrainian scientists or scientific groups that work in Ukraine or abroad.

  • There is no age, gender, religion, or any other limitations; however, special attention will be paid to young motivated researchers in the early stages of their careers.

  • Work must be at least partly conducted on the scientific natural history specimens deposited in the Ukrainian institutions or private collections.

  • Only work conducted or finished (if this was a long-term project) in the current year is evaluated.

  • Any kind of work that helped to make Ukrainian natural history collections openly available is under consideration.

  • Examples of such works: (1) published datasets in open access databases such as GBIF, JACQ, UkrBIN, Biodiversity of Ukraine, etc.; (2) published scientific materials in open access journals (e.g., research articles, monographs, datapapers, etc.); (3) realized projects within open data concept (e.g., digitization, databasing, processing of collections, etc.); (4) organized events that helped to make Ukrainian natural history data openly available or actively propagated open access in Ukrainian nature science (e.g., conferences, seminars, etc.).

Application

  • Applications for the 2021 Prize should be submitted online by 15 January 2022.

  • Applications must be completed in English. Applications completed in other languages will be evaluated only in exceptional cases and normally will not be considered for evaluation.

  • All applications for the 2021 Prize will be evaluated by 15 February 2022.

  • Applying for this Prize, all applicants agree with the terms of the Privacy policy.

  • The winner will be notified by the email provided in the application form. After claiming the Prize, the winner’s information will also be published on this website and social media.

  • If the primary winner does not respond to the notification email in two weeks, another winner can be determined.

  • Applicants who did not win will be notified.

  • If none of the applications will be satisfactorily evaluated, the prize will stay unclaimed and will not supplement the next year’s prize.

  • The winner can apply for next year’s Prizes on general principles.
