The Town of Andover’s Commission on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (the “Commission” or the “Commission on DEI”) strives to promote the diversity of our Town, the equity of opportunity and treatment, and the fostering of an inclusive environment for all. The Commission reflects the Town’s permanent commitment to improve our community by placing these principles at the core of all Town endeavors. By prioritizing this important work, we are able to address areas where we have not yet met our aspirations to treat all individuals with the fundamental respect that all humans deserve, and we can celebrate the components of our Town that make us vibrant and unique.
The Commission on DEI was created following the murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020. The creation of the Commission was an acknowledgment that racial prejudice in the Town of Andover continues to be a prevalent issue. Accordingly, the work of the Commission on DEI is squarely rooted in addressing racial bias within the Town. In addition, the work of the Commission will also continue to champion concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion beyond race-based issues
