Males often with partial Wood Duck-like crest and overall Mallard-like body pattern. Bill intermediate in shape. Females often subtler with an intermediate overall shape, particularly noticeable in the head and bill. Eye usually dark to brown. Individuals involving a domestic Mallard parent can cause some confusion.
Most similar to Wood Duck x Aythya/Netta. The latter tend tend to have pale or red eyes, often darker back, and overall different body pattern. They also often have a more bluish-silvery bill.

📝 - This seems to be the most credible evidence for any hybrid involving Mandarin Duck. All other alleged Mandarin Duck hybrids that I've come across either don't have any credible evidence or, in the case of Mandarin x Wood Ducks, are just eclipse plumage male Mandarin Ducks. No other Mandarin Duck hybrids in the linked paper seem to actually be Mandarin Duck hybrids.
