Rationale for Analysis


The reason for exploring this learning technology is the fact that some students struggle to meet grade level standards in Mathematics due to a variability of factors. After briefly using Mathletics with some of my students, I noticed it was different than other online math platforms that I had seen. While a subscription is required to gain access to Mathletics, users can sign up for a free trial to explore what is being offered. Students can signup and complete a course as well as participate in the ‘Mathletics live’ where learners participate globally with players who are at the same level. Students are rewarded with certificates, credits and ranked based on their personal level of ‘mastery’. This can promote motivation especially for students who enjoy rewards, also, gamification learning often helps to provide students with a stimulating learning experience. The customizable function is what drives the appeal because teachers can actually meet each student where they are at, by tailoring the curriculum to suit learners needs. The functionality and the aesthetics is appealing for students, parents and teachers by keeping learners accountable with learning analytics features.
