Often when I paint, I disappoint myself because I don't follow a structure and my result isn't what I had planned. Rather than spend ages figuring out an interesting piece with figures I wanted to find ways to express an emotional experience with no limitations. I wanted to find ways colour and movement could express my ecstatic and inspired energy. This painting explores different techniques including the use of acrylic paint dripping, oil pastels and chalk, and inks. I wanted this piece to take you to other worlds, a world of chaos and colour and excitement. This piece has some themes of nature such as the sun. I always found it beautiful how plants grow towards sunlight and I usually try and depict that in some of my paintings. I aimed to make this piece represent different lives intertwined with each other as we try and survive.
The title is based on 'Reckoner', a song by Radiohead that I had playing on a loop whilst doing some parts of this. I find music extremely influential in what kind of thing I paint. I was listening to the whole In Rainbows album, which is one of my favourite albums. This gives me the right movement and fluidity to create something unique.
