I gave myself one minute each layer of medium, overlaying and being expressive and allowing an almost instinctual drive to take over, this allowed me to un-focus on the structural and compositional element of the piece, for example me thinking ‘this goes here, this goes here, a bit more of that etc’ and just allowing myself the freedom to grab what I want and not think about what I am doing. I created three pieces, as they progress, I find myself combining more words in the piece, using my hands more and using darker colours. The strokes I create become more violent and aggravated and I find myself using the piece as an ‘outburst’ of emotions that I may have been feeling whilst creating the piece.
I find this an interesting element, seeing how just a minute can change your mindset in which that time is used to think and reflect without the distractions of work, social media, and other external factors. This comes into play with how the pieces develop, as I detach myself from the world around me and it is just me and the medium.
