Digital Twinning of Extrusion-based 3D Printing
We presents a methodology for numerically modelling the motion of the nozzle in the 3D printing process with additional work presented into sharp angle motion planning for additive manufacturing of energy storage materials.

Numerical Simulation of a Core-Shell Strand in Material Extrusion AM
Here we use numerical simulations within the framework of computation fluid dynamics (CFD) to identify the best combination of operating parameters for the 3D printing of a core–shell polymer strand. The objectives of these CFD simulations are to find strands with an ultimate volume fraction of core polymer. At the same time, complete encapsulations are obtained for the core polymer inside the shell one. [source]
Modelling Binder Jet Additive Manufacturing
We use Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to investigate binder droplet spreading, penetration and interaction with powder particles during binder jet additive manufacturing. Our simulations provide insights into the effects of particle packing, wettability and fluid properties on binder distribution and infiltration within the powder bed. This research supports the optimisation of printing parameters, improved control of binder–particle interactions and enhanced quality and consistency of 3D-printed components.
Laser-based Additive Manufacturing
We develop Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models to investigate melt pool dynamics, heat transfer and solidification during laser-based additive manufacturing of metallic components. By coupling CFD simulations with Cellular Automata (CA) models, we predict microstructural evolution, including grain growth and solidification patterns, under different processing conditions. This integrated modelling approach provides insights into the relationships between processing parameters, melt pool behaviour and resulting microstructures, supporting process optimisation and improved quality of additively manufactured metal components.
