During my degree, I completed 2 internships, one was at Klara Cosmetics in 2023 as a Social Media creator and the other at Strat Agency in 2024 as a Production Assistant. Both internships gave me clarity on my future career goals and insight into the reality of what the media industry is like away from the walls of university.
I joined Klara Cosmetics in September 2023 as a Social Media Creator. This was the first opportunity I had to test my social media skills in my degree at the time, and it was an exciting time. I would be working in the office 9 am - 5 pm, generating as much content as I could using their in-house studio, such as stills and videos for their social platforms.
The face of the company is its beauty brand, which offers a wide range of makeup products. The company also owns another brand, called Eve Boss, which collaborates with other companies to produce their social media content. During my internship, I created content for both Klara Cosmetics (focused on makeup) and Eve Boss (featuring a variety of products from different brands). These brands spanned many industries, skincare, alcohol, storage, and more, which gave me valuable experience in analysing each brand’s brief and tailoring my work to suit their individual identities. When constructing my videos, I tried to match the background to the product, in both colour and brand identity.
I have gathered a few videos that I generated to display my work. A mix of stills and video. Just a note that the videos don't have any audio; the company at the time had a voice actress who could narrate the videos.
My time interning at Strat Agency was such a fun experience, it was a full week of long hours and getting fun. Their shoot schedules was usually for a week per month to shoot all of their advertisements, and it wasn't just 1 or 2 brands for that week it was about 10-12 different brands a week, 1-2 brands a day, and even changing various locations throughout the week, such a fast paced environment, those 2 months were honestly such a great opportunity where I truly had the most fun at an internship.
My responsibilities would be many different things. I would work with the Arts Department mainly as my primary task, and assist anywhere else I was needed. I would help dress up and down the sets, ensuring a space was properly decorated for the corresponding brand.
In the pictures I supplied of the bright pink room, there was HiSmile for their new Barbie product, so we had to set the room in all that is pink, pink bedsheets, pink costumes, candles, string lights, side table accessories, rugs, basically anything within the mise-en-scène, we switched to be pink, and this was with all products in different parts of the property(s), not to this saturated level, but to represent the brands identity.
Although I didn't get to do any of the main camera set-up or work with schedules, I think being in the position I was in gave me such a great advantage to work with all the talented people on set, and learn a little bit more about their allocated roles and the expectations to carry out such a role.
