Museum Significance: Founding Duck — the object that began the collection
"Every museum has a beginning. Ours begins with Hope.
Hope entered Nichole's life as a prize her trainer, Chrissy K., awarded her during new-hire training. At the time, she was simply a little rubber duck. There was no museum, no DuckDex, no research collection, and certainly no Captain Quackers.
But Hope stayed. One duck became another, the collection grew, curiosity followed, and eventually an idea that began with a small training prize developed into The American Rubber Duck Museum.
Today, Hope is DuckDex #0001—the Founding Duck. Her scuffs, black rub marks, and other signs of handling aren't distractions from her story. They're physical evidence of it. She was loved and displayed long before anyone imagined she would someday become a museum artifact.
Every Duck Has a Story. This is where ours begins."

DuckDex Entry #0001
Awarded to Nichole by her trainer, Chrissy K., during new hire training, Hope became the first duck in what would eventually grow into The American Rubber Duck Museum.
Years of handling and display have left visible scuffs and black rub marks on her surface. Rather than diminishing her significance, these changes document her life before the collection became a museum project. Preserved without cosmetic restoration, Hope serves as both the museum's founding artifact and the physical starting point of its collection history.
Acquisition Method: Award/prize during new hire training

Story Connection: Hope was awarded to Nichole during new hire training and became the first rubber duck in her collection. As additional ducks accumulated over the years, what began with Hope developed into a broader collecting interest and ultimately The American Rubber Duck Museum.
Because her acquisition history is known directly, Hope has particularly strong personal provenance even though her maker, production date, and original commercial identity have not yet been established.
Hope exhibits visible evidence of long-term handling and display, including small scuffs, black rub marks, and other minor surface wear.
These marks are significant to the object's history and should be preserved rather than cosmetically removed. No repainting or other restoration is planned. Cleaning, when necessary, should be limited to conservation-appropriate methods that do not alter the existing surface or remove historically accumulated evidence of use.
Hope's condition should be documented photographically over time so future changes can be distinguished from the wear associated with her life before formal museum cataloging.

Every duck has a story...
"Hope reminds me that beginnings don't have to stay perfect to remain important. Her little scuffs and black marks aren't imperfections to erase—they're part of the journey that brought her here.
When Nichole received Hope, nobody knew she was holding the first artifact in a future museum collection. She was simply a little duck worth keeping. That's what I love most about her story. Sometimes we don't recognize the beginning of an adventure until we're already well into it.
There may be older ducks in this museum. Rarer ducks. Ducks with famous makers and remarkable histories. But there will only ever be one DuckDex #0001."
