Fall & Spring 2024
This fall semester, I had the opportunity to do my fieldwork at Bahia Vista Elementary School, where I worked in classrooms across all grade levels, from kindergarten through fifth grade. It was an incredible experience to see the variety of teaching styles and interactions at each level. While I enjoyed observing and assisting in all the classes, I found myself especially drawn to the second through fourth grades. These grades felt like a great balance of foundational learning and creativity, and I loved how engaged and curious the students were at this stage. This experience helped my passion for teaching and gave me valuable insight into working with diverse age groups in a school environment.

Assisting students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) has been a personal experience. By working closely with 3-5 students per session the student's grade level very from 1st- 4th. With this I've been able to tailor my support to meet their unique learning needs. Whether providing additional explanations, modifying assignments, or offering one-on-one guidance with reading, the aim has always been to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Witnessing the progress and growth of students with IEPs has been particularly gratifying, as it underscores the importance of personalized approaches in education. Collaborating with teachers, parents, and other support staff has allowed me to contribute to the success of these students, fostering a sense of achievement and confidence in their academic journey. The experience has not only deepened my understanding of diverse learning styles but also reinforced the belief in the transformative power of individualized support in the educational landscape.
2023 Fall
Venetia Valley Elementary School 1st Grade
Volunteering at Venetia Valley has been a truly rewarding experience. Being part of the vibrant and dynamic learning environment has allowed me to contribute in various ways. Whether assisting teachers with classroom activities, supporting students during small group sessions, or participating in special events, every moment has been filled with a sense of purpose. Witnessing the curiosity and enthusiasm of young minds as they engage in learning has been heartwarming. The connections forged with both students and dedicated educators have created a sense of community that goes beyond the classroom. As a volunteer, I've not only helped enhance the educational experience but also gained a deeper appreciation for the invaluable work that takes place within the walls of an elementary school. It's a privilege to be part of the journey that shapes the foundation of these young learners.

2023 Spring
In the spring of 2023 I was placed at Loma Verde Elementary School in Mrs. Hanley's class. Mrs.Hanley's class consisted of a mixture of 1st and 2nd graders. During the school year I leaned with younger kids you have to constantly help, be patient and enjoy the little things. This class was so much fun to work with. From the beginning of the semester towards the end , I could see how much each student was improving with reading ,writing, speaking ,and math. At this age they are literal little sponges. They are at the age where they still love school and are super excited about it. While completing my field work observations I was able to be a lot more hands on and help the teacher with anything that she needed. I read to the students, they read to me, I helped with math, spelling, art projects and emotional problems. I loved working with them! Each week when I would come in, the students would chant my name lol. I obviously had to say "SHHHHH , get back to work". This semester was very memorable.
In these pictures the students where working on "traveling the world projects"! On this day the children traveled to Fiji! The student standing up was giving a presentation about her home land(Fiji). She talked about different foods that they ate, clothing they wore for special occasions and some unique fun facts about Fiji.
2022 Fall
During the fall of 2023 I experienced the following while completing my field work observations at Loma Verde elementary school. I've expanded my knowledge with management styles in multiple classrooms, interacting with students, giving and receiving mutual respect, classroom expectations and finally communicating effectively. While completing my courses at Dominican, I have learned new teaching strategies and different pedagogy when working with elementary students. The biggest thing that I have learned is that it's okay to not be 100% certain. Knowing that my classmates, colleges, friends and family are always there to give me advice, feedback and motivation to keep me going, in order to help the next generation succeed in the classroom and in the real world. Dealing with young children can be very difficult but it has the biggest payoff. Not only are teachers there to teach you but they are also there to listen, care, manage, and enforce the rules everyday so everything and everyone can be safe with each other. Teachers are human too.

I volunteered at the local food hub in order to give back to the community of Marin County. At the food bank we bagged and distributed food donated from local super markets and famers markets to families in need.
