MANON LAVAL

30s, survivor, perceptive / Canadian merchant

Educated, outspoken and politically sharp, Laval has a personal empathy for Indian claims and a low opinion of the empty promises from both Great Britain and the United States. She’s wise enough to adapt to whoever is in power but is convinced they are temporary invaders passing through on a chase for land and power. She establishes a surprising relationship with Barclay despite, or maybe because, they are such opposite characters. Yet her care for the local community, even as her wealth increases during the war, betrays a crisis of conscience.
