5/10/23 Article reaction

In the article Dr.B talks about how students may miss out on their education due to not reading after school ends. Students may forget how to read or write after 2 months. When they arrive back at school after summer, they may be lost and not know what their teacher is trying to teach them. They will get stuck and will eventually fall behind. Parents are also encouraged to help their children have a steady education.

My reaction to the article is that it's true. I do believe that some students may have learning loss. They become so confident in themselves that they don't live up to their expectations. Falling behind is worse than failing. You won't have time to take in what your teacher is trying to teach you and you may procrastinate all your work. The article may be focused on elementary students, but it applies to everyone that continues to go to school.

 Professional Dress Day reaction 03/10/23

To dress professionally, you have to have the right clothes. A simple plain color dress works everytime. You can also just use a simple cover up to look more professional. Showing a lot of skin throws off the "professional" look. This skill is necessary to learn for job interviews. You should look like you actually want the job or at least make an effort to look decent.

My reaction to dressing professionally was good. It felt nice to wear something different in a school environment. At first it felt a little weird and I felt out of place, but I got more comfortable towards the end. Having people around you wear similar things also helped too. It makes you feel more confident and more ready for when getting a job.

"Service is not the same as Hospitality" by Anna Dolce 3/01/23

While eating out or dining in at a restaurant, the whole team can put so much effort into making money or bringing in customers, but do they really care to satisfy you? Hospitality is caring for your customers and not only looking at them as profit, but as actual humans. No one can read your mind, but true common sense is needed when serving someone other than yourself. Customer service is the basic thing to be taught, you can have a welcoming smile and a friendly voice, but you can be someone so different outside of your work place. You have to be happy and and love what you do. You have to care.

I thought the video was very true. People have to realize that these questions that are being asked repeatedly with no affection or care can really make other people believe that it's all about money. You should be able to meet the basic needs of what your customer wants. Effort is not only needed, but some feeling and heartfelt concern is also needed. Hospitality is making your guests feeling welcomed and comfortable. Customer service is helping to solve a conflict your guests bring to your attention.

Tie A Tie  11/30/22

Before learning this skill, I had no idea how to tie a tie. At first it was pretty confusing, but I ended up getting it in the end. I struggled a lot, but my classmates helped me. It's best to go slow and steady because it can turn into a big knot quick and it's even harder to take the knot out. I learned it's best to use a thin material tie because you won't struggle as much.

This skill comes in handy because you can be able to help your brother, father, and or your other half in the future. Tying the tie was pretty fun, I learned that small mistakes can turn into big ones. Also asking for help from others helped me a lot. Seeing my other classmates learn was pretty funny and made me enjoy it even more.

Telephone Skills  11/04/22

While learning telephone skills, it has taught me to be kind and patient when speaking to people on the phone.  Telephone skills isn't always something that will come easy to a person, but it can definitely be practiced and learned. While speaking on the phone you should always have a positive attitude and be polite.  Also taking long to pick up the phone can lead your business to having no customers. You should pick up within 3 rings. Never rush and speak with good posture and attitude.

While doing the activity in class, I learned that most of us get shy when speaking on the phone or some of us just pause and don't know what to say next.  A lot of practice can help us become more confident and become more social. While calling other hotels and testing their telephone skills, it amazed me to see that most hotels will pick up only after 1 ring, but some other hotels didn't even pick up the phone. I really enjoyed getting to learn telephone skills and to experience how it would be like talking to a customer on the phone.

Ms.Oliveros Presentation 09/09/22

The information given during Ms.Oliveros's presentation was very helpful and helped me to see the many opportunities given through out being in a gcc program.  I was able to gain more knowledge about what will be happening in the next few years of being in the program. I learned that we can do work experience and turn it into school credits. I also learned that I can save more money by applying for financial aid in college. Through out my next two years in the program, I can also gain a certificate of mastery or a certificate of completion upon graduation.

All the information that was given was very helpful and interesting. Engaging in these opportunities will help me become more productive and more challenged. It was helpful because it showed us what we can accomplish in such a small amount of time. The next two years of high school  can just fly by and we won't have enough time to accomplish our short term goals in the program. Being able to take in the information will really help me to accomplish my goals.

CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Training 09/10/22&09/17/22

Cert has prepared me to be ready for any given disaster. Cert taught me how to examine a person that is seriously injured and to check them for any spinal injuries. Cert taught me how to do a search and rescue and what to look for before entering a damaged building. Going through the training was very helpful because I went there with little to no evidence on what to do during a fire or during a bomb threat. I really admired the time and patience it took our instructors to actually sit down and teach us what we needed to know. Leaving with all the information really made me feel confident in myself and what I am now able to do during a disaster.

Although the training was very tiring and took up most of the day, it was very helpful. I wouldn't have known how to even put out a fire and how to save someone that is under a heavy object. It helped me to realize that some people really think that they would know what to do, but after doing the hands on training and being put in the situation it really makes you view it from a different point of view. It also helped me to realize that teamwork is very important. It was also really helpful because after being put in certain situations, they teach you how to stay calm and to observe your surroundings.
