What to Expect from their Festival
Performing before The Sherlocks is Tom A.Smith, who at 21 went viral with his covers of some hit tunes, and received a shoutout from Elton John. Despite not having met Tom, Kiaran “cannot wait” to work with him. Other Yorkshire stalwarts The Denabys and Skylights will be joining this massive, ambitious project at the Steel Yard.
Kaiser Chiefs, Libertines, Liam Gallagher. If someone listed off these names as the gigs they had been to, you would probably be jealous. Well, imagine being the support act getting to tour the world with them! The Sherlocks are more than just a support act. They have built up a huge following this past decade, and after selling out Sheffield’s O2 Academy, they return home this Summer to headline an exciting new festival. Frontman Kiaran told us: “It’s a step up for us. We had a gig booked in at the O2 Academy a few years ago and when some structural issues came about, and we had a gig booked in there, it forced us to do something different because we had to. The gig was sold out so we had to think about how the show could go on, because the venue was shut and had no sign of opening again. We had over 2,000 tickets sold.
“We ended up booking two nights at what was formerly called The Plug but is called The Network now. Miraculously it worked out because you would be thinking who is going on the Friday and who is going on the Saturday and not sure if it was a postcode thing, but it literally just worked out”. You can get your tickets now by heading over to The Sherlocks website, where you can also listen to the brand new single “In Your Hands”. Following the release of their breakout album last Summer, “Everything Must Make Sense”, they have made a name for themselves as one to watch out for, in an age when those big high-energy bands are increasingly harder to come across.
The latest single, "In Your Hands", released last month, Kiaran says was “influenced by big bands. We are in a weird spot at the moment where we are not making albums, but just making songs when they come to us. Then we go to the studio. The idea that felt the best was In Your Hands, and I showed the band the demos, and then here we are”. When trying to find new ground for a love song, Kiaran says “love songs, and those cliche topics that al songs are written about, are universal. Whether you’re homeless or a milionaire, people would rather be with other people than alone. People spend ages trying to reinvent the wheel but we just want to write about the things we are feeling. Quite honestly this is the song we are proudest of. This is the freshest thing. It wil wear off. It always does, but I’m just realy happy with where we are as a band. It’s a natural progression. We’re not forcing anything.”
