Separate team members can work on Visual Design | Animation | Sound | App Design/build |Testing. These processes can overlap with each. other.
Team members should be ready to help out in processes outside of their primary responsibilities as needed.
This is the sequence of events that a visitor to the exhibition will experience.
Teams will essentially be creating an animation that will play on a tablet or phone when it is pointed at a series of 3-4 printed posters.
The animation will expose specific harmful stereotypes and/or messaging in media and offer ideas for alternative versions.
The posters can be a book or magazine cover, game box cover, animation/film poster, magazine/billboard Advertisement, etc.
The sign will have contain following content
App logo/icon
QR code
Instructions for using and installing the app .
Visitor points their device at the QR code that's printed on a small sign. That QR code calls up the web app on the device.
Visitor is given the option to install the app on their device
Visitor pushes the 'start' button to launch the app
Note: This is a web-based app that needs to stream the videos via a strong internet connection. It will not work offline.
Visitor takes a step towards the first printed poster and looks it over.
Then, with the web app launched, they point their device at it. The app will recognize the poster and automatically launch the matching video animation
Note: A very high resolution image of the original image will be needed for the printed poster.
When the device is pointed at a poster, the poster image renders as a video animation that is mapped over the poster image. The video animation will integrate text, arrows, and audio in way that vision and hearing impaired persons can engage (reference the Universal Design page of this site).
Animation Sequence:
The original poster image will be diagrammatically described, The description will include a breakdown of the character's traits and/or situations as they initially appear.
Then the animation will transform the character's traits and/or situations into a new version. Students will style match their alternative version to the original version that they choose. The transformed poster will also be diagrammatically described with animated text, arrows, and audio.
The animation will freeze on the last frame. This will allow reading time for deaf persons.
The animation will be restarted by pointing the device away then back at the poster
The exhibition will be on the display board in the DAD HUB.
Exhibit should include 3 or 4 posters
Individual printed poster size: 24" wide x 43.2" high
Individual poster file size:
3600 pixels wide x 6480 pixels high
Animation pixel dimensions: 600 pixels wide x 1080 pixels high
Animation duration: 20-40 seconds
End of animation: freeze on last frame until the viewer points the device away from the poster, at which time the app returns to the splash page.
Audio should describe the important features (for blind persons)
Text should mirror what the narrator is saying (for deaf persons)
This is a single screen that works with all of the posters

These are very rough sketches that aim to show how your storyboards should be formatted and how to include the text animation in the boards.
The primary experience will be delivered through phone speakers. The mix should be optimized for phone speakers, not the usual monitors or headphones.
The voice narration has to dominate and not compete with the instrumental accents/scoring, foley, and effects
Intro: We are upset about the lack of inclusion and diversity in popular media. Let's have some emphasized anger or indignation in the voice.
Solution: We are excited show our ideas for solving the problem. Let's have some emphasized enthusiasm or excitement in the voice.
These should reflect the anger, indignation, enthusiasm, and excitement in the narration. It can change very rapidly.
Using sparingly: only where it can make a bifg difference
Viewers can't watch the action and read the text at the same time.
Viewers can't read text as fast as they can hear a narrator.
Animations can be between 20 and 40 seconds.
Alternate reading time and important action (don't have both at once)
Reading times: .25 seconds for each short single syllable word and .5 seconds for each multiple syllable word.
Characters can have idle animation during reading times.
These examples are from past Thesis Projects. Your Slideshow will have some differences from these because every project is unique.
