Angie's Announcements

Angela Church-Bukus, Family & Community Services Manager

Family Service has had a busy start to the winter!  In December we had our Cocoa, Crafts and Claus event, which was another successful event!  I hope you had an opportunity to see some of the pictures on Alta’s Facebook page.  We are planning and looking forward to our remaining events this year:  January – Winter Wonderland, February – Friendship Dance (being held two nights!), March – Lucky Bowl (male engagement bowling), and April – Gents and Gems Fashion Show.

During this time, we have also been working with our families toward accomplishing the Hopes and Dreams goal they have chosen for this school year.  In January we are also completing the second Family Outcomes assessments with our families.  This helps guide us in helping to identify needs and assist parents in providing for those needs and overcoming barriers to accessing resources for their family.  This Family Outcomes tool focuses on the following areas: Family Engagement in Transitions, Building Positive Child-Parent Relationships, Families as Lifelong Learners and Advocates and Leaders, Family Growth and Stability, Health and Nutrition, and Parent and Program.

As we move into the next part of our school year, re-enrollment will be in full swing.  Family Advocates will be completing re-enrollment applications with parents for all children enrolled in the 2023-2024 school year who are age eligible and wishing to return for the 2024-2025 school year.  During this time, we will also continue to complete any applications for new children wishing to enroll in the current or new school year.

Our Pregnant Women’s Program is continuing to accept applications.  This program is specifically geared toward first time expectant women and teen mothers.  If you know of someone who could be assisted by this program, please direct them to any Family Advocate or Mary Yuhas, our Pregnancy Support Specialist, to complete and submit and application.

Last, but certainly not least, congratulations to Daria Williams and Miah Pierce for graduating in December with their BSW degrees from YSU as part of my newsletter article.
