On December 10, 2022, the Alsann Republic held its first (delayed) elections for the two Federal seats in the Federal Council. There were three candidates running for the seats of Capis and Ithyca, with the two highest ranked winning. The candidates were founding citizen James L, experienced debater and legislator Fan Breadfold, and former Concordian governor Jasmine Carroll.
James L is considered a founding citizen, and has been instrumental in the beginning of Alsann. First volunteering to coordinate Alsann's court system, he later chose to contest the first election on the platform of stabilising the economy and boosting key sectors. A full policy plan can be found here.
Fan Breadfold is a transfer citizen of Concordia. He is known to be an experienced debater, and is also proficient in legislating. His platform is one of absolute freedoms and transparency. His statement can be found here.
Jasmine Carroll was the governor of Carrolinux in the Concordian Republic. Since joining Alsann, she has established herself as a centrist, describing herself as 'strong-minded'. Her policy goals are 'simple bills to help establish the nation' and to ensure the voice of the people do not go unheard. A full policy plan is here.
There were also five questions asked on this first federal ballot as part of the first referendum (technically a plebiscite). They primarily pertained to national symbolism and heraldry, however one proposed changes to the electoral method.
The first question asked in the referendum will be asking which of five flags should be chosen (below). The flag is intended to represent Alsann and also look aesthetically pleasing.
The second question will be asking about the idea of a new coat of arms (below), based on the proposed national flower, being adopted. The design would also coincide with any of the new flags.
The third question in the referendum will be considering derivative war (civil), military and battle (military) flags based on the design chosen (otherwise, current flags will remain).
The fourth question asked will be if the whistling kite should become Alsann's national animal, and if the bluegrass lily should be the national flower. They are both native species.
The fifth and final question will ask if approval voting should be adopted, a form of voting where any number of candidates can be picked and the one with the highest number wins.
