"2025 New Year Phoenix Cup" Chess Championship 

Schedule: Jan 1, 2025, Wed 1~5 pm in McLean (For all ages)

Registration:  

For K-1, K-4, K-8, Open section,  4-SS, G/30, d5 for upper section, 5-SS, G/25, d5 for lower section

• Special Top Girl trophies in each section to encourage more chess girls!

• Top Kindergarten Award. 

• Top Upset Award

• Trophies to top 3 players in each section,  medals to all players won 2.5 points in Upper Sections, and 3 points in Lower Sections (K-1 & K-4 sections). 

• Mixed Doubles Bonus prizes, special cash prizes to the two players (One Female and one Male, it's OK to across sections) on the three top-scoring Mixed Doubles Teams. Total $45 cash prize to top three teams. ($20 to the first team, $15 the the 2nd team, $ 10 to the third). Invite your Girl/Lady teammate as early as possible! (You must report mixed double team list before the 2nd round).

You are cordially invited to have a Simul & Seminar with Carissa Yip, 12-year-old chess prodigy, youngest ever US female master and other world top chess kids this coming Saturday morning (Dec 31, 2016, 10am-12pm).  Join in us, bring your own chess set and questions. 

At just 12 years of age, Carissa Yip has quickly become one of the top female players in America. Known for her creativity over the board, she enters the tournament with an all time high rating of 2305.

Yip has been on a record-shattering pace ever since she learned how to play the game from her father at age 6. Three years later, at age 9, she became the youngest ever to reach the title of Expert.

Two years later she broke the record for youngest female to achieve the title of National Master at the age of 11 years, 5 months, and 18 days -- breaking the record previously held by Annie Wang. Along the way to Master, she set the record for youngest female player to beat a Grandmaster for her win against GM Alexander Ivanov in the New England Open a few days before her 11th birthday.
