AlphaSTEM has been serving the Northern Virginia area for close to a decade. Our mission as an educator has always been to promote STEM for kids from all backgrounds, which is why our center offers discounts and even free programs for children from needy families.
But we also understand that parents in some communities are tied up with work and have difficulties managing commutes to our center at McLean, and online education never works for lower-grade students. To address this discrepancy, our seasoned teachers at AlphaSTEM have volunteered to start a no-cost outreach program called Math Education at Your Doorstep (ME@YD) to help children in need.
The ME@YD program is an afterschool need-based and group-oriented math learning program for students in fifth to seventh grades, conducted at your local libraries (to best ensure the safety of our volunteers, we no longer offer in-home tutoring). It is currently offered in some underserved communities in Northern Virginia. For kids younger than fifth grade or older than seventh grade, our AlphaSTEM center is better suited to offer more appropriate STEM learning resources.
We normally reach out to families in need through our AlphaSTEM registration system or past contacts. If you are new to our center but are interested, please inquire to see if the ME@YD program is offered in your region.
*For students: please bring your last two math homework assignments (preferably graded) to your first session. This will allow us to quickly access your level and put you in the appropriate group.
*To our past and current volunteers: thank you for your dedication, hard work, and generous spirit. Your efforts have made a significant impact on our program and the community we serve.
