WELCOME TO THE
NORTHWEST REGION
ALPHA DELTA KAPPA
In Alpha Delta Kappa, we promote Excellence in Education, Altruism, and World Understanding. We can make a difference in people's lives by the little things we do each day.
As educators, we have a profound influence on the lives of children, the community, and the world in which we live. Our altruistic giving of time and money makes a difference. Working together, we have a positive impact on the world we live in.
The Northwest Region Logo and Theme pictured above are explained:
Welcome to the “SMILES with Sisters, SEEDS of Growth, and SUNFLOWERS Reaching Out” Northwest biennium! Most of you know that I am always smiling, and SMILES make us all feel better. We must always plant, feed, and nurture SEEDS to grow positively in our own lives and in Alpha Delta Kappa. SUNFLOWERS are my favorite flowers because they make me smile more, brighten my life, and their petals reach out in so many ways.
The logo’s foundation is a personal photo of an almost perfect “lemon queen” sunflower that I purchased at a street market in Minneapolis, MN, while attending the A∆K International Convention in 2019. With assistance and input from Misha Gelvin and Helen Foster, the final logo was created, using personal pictures of 6 sunflower varieties to represent each Northwest state:
Alaska – evening sun
Washington – dwarf sunspot
Idaho – ring of fire
Wyoming – Italian white
Oregon - teddy bear
Montana – Maximillian.
In the center of the large lemon queen sunflower, where the SEEDS are located, you find the Alpha Delta Kappa tricolored logo that represents the nose of our SMILE. Forming the eyes are the dates of the biennium, and the mouth is the word NORTHWEST. Finally, around the perimeter of the sunflower petals, is the theme of this biennium: “SMILES with Sisters, SEEDS of Growth, and SUNFLOWERS Reaching Out.”
Enjoy and let’s celebrate with positivity.
