The career that I have decided to pursue would be something within the engineering field. This is because even from a young age I was interested with making and creating things. I love games and technology. I have always been creative and love things that involve art and making things out of my ideas. My parents have always been supportive of me and what I want to do with my career. I have a history of engineers that run in my family, and have a lot of family members that are or were engineers. I have always known from a young age that engineering was something that I wanted to do, but I mostly decided that it would be something I wanted to pursue around middle school.
I haven't taken any classes other then the JFCTC Engineering classes, however I have passed all of my math classes I've taken so far with all A's . At the James A. Forrest Career and Technology center I have learned to work with Arduinos, have had experience with SolidWorks and AutoCAD, and have worked with CNC machines. At Chopticon, I have taken honors classes, and AP classes which include AP Government, AP World History, AP Physics, and AP Language and Composition. I have also taken several art classes. All of these classes have given me a 4.1 GPA.
I have participated in extra Curricular actives, but a lot of what I spend my time with outside of school is dance. Dancing gives me a sense of leadership, determination, and confidence. At my dance studio, we are all a team. So, we have to help each other out and be supportive of one another. Specifically, we have to work together, and be able to trust each other. In dance there are moments where someone could be holding you in a specific pose and you could be up in the air, and you have to work as a team to make sure no one gets injured. Along with that, you have to trust the person that is holding you up, otherwise you could be more likely to fall. Dance has also taught me to be persistent, because you are never going to get a skill right away, but, you can't just give up. You keep trying so you are able to to do the skill. Lastly dance have helped me with my confidence. This is because for dance you on a stage performing in front of a lot people, and judges who are there to judge you, and dance has taught me how to not get as anxious especially when it comes to doing things like public speaking in front of crowds, because I do it so often with dance. You have to be confident in your abilities in order to succeed within dance. I also like art, and have learned a lot from it. I mostly sculpt things (specifically out of clay), which allows me to be creative with what I a making. To work with the clay, you have to be patient, and also be able to work efficiently to get things done in the best way possible, which also making it look as good as it possibly can. I am also able to develop creative ideas, and actually make them real.
When I graduate from high school, I would like to go to a four year college. Since I am only a junior in high school, I have still not decided exactly what college I would like to go to. I would most likely like to go to a college that is around Maryland so that I am close to home and can pay in-state tuition if it is in Maryland. I don't yet know what I would like to major or minor in. However, I know I would like to go to a college that has an environmental engineering program. My plan most likely will change with time, and my training/education could possibly continue somewhere other than where I start directly after I graduate.
After I achieve my career goal, I would be able to create things that are useful from the environment and for other people. From a young age I have always been interested in solving problems, or taking a product and finding a way to improve it. With engineering, I will be able to do that because I will be able to be creative to think of ways that I could make something better, or fix problems within the environment. This would make a positive impact of the world and on people's lives.
