My learning didn’t just happen in the classroom.
One of my first experiences was starting a small dog walking business. It taught me practical life skills, how to use an invoice book, manage payments, be on time, and communicate clearly with customers. These early lessons in responsibility and professionalism gave me the confidence to take on additional challenges.
I also completed my Certificate II in Animal Care, which gave me practical skills and knowledge to support my passion for wildlife.
I joined the Rotary Wildlife Rescue Club, where I worked with mentors, attended training courses, and participated in monthly meetings with members, community supporters, and sponsors.
I learned directly from carers and vets who guided me through challenges like Peanut’s thrush diagnosis, showing me that knowledge and teamwork can save lives.
These experiences shaped my skills and sense of purpose. They showed me that learning is everywhere, whether walking dogs in the neighborhood, in the bush at night, in a vet’s clinic, or even at a market stall
The table below outlines all my past learning experiences and what I have learnt from them.
Walking dogs was an enriching experience that improved my physical and mental health while bringing joy to the dogs. Watching them, especially the Australian shepherds, grow stronger and more confident was fulfilling. One memorable moment was when they discovered a stream on a hot day, splashing around with pure delight.
I formed deep bonds with each dog, learning their unique personalities and quirks. Their trust and affection were incredibly rewarding, teaching me the depth of companionship animals can offer.
This role also had challenges, like managing energetic dogs and adapting to weather conditions. Tools like water bowls, toys, and treats helped ensure their well-being.

At Raba farm I learned how important it is to look after the land and how to use the resources you have. I also volunteered to clean the chicken coop, fed the three bulls at Raba farm and noticed a wound on their leg. I immediately informed their caregivers and they were very thankful.
