The Hot Work Safety and Procedures course was developed to address a critical training requirement for a leading life insurance provider. Recognizing the inherent risks associated with hot work activities in their facilities, the company mandated a comprehensive training program for facilities managers at various communities.
The primary objective of the course was to equip facilities managers with the knowledge and skills to implement safety precautions and procedures during hot work. This initiative aimed to ensure a secure working environment, prevent accidents, and comply with regulatory standards such as OSHA's 29 CFR Part 1910.252.
The course was crafted by building upon an existing OSHA training PowerPoint and a support document provided by the client. Leveraging this foundational material, I expanded the content and integrated interactive elements to transform it into an engaging e-learning experience.
Introduction: An overview of the importance of hot work safety and regulatory compliance.
Hazards of Welding, Cutting, and Brazing: Understanding the risks associated with hot work activities.
Hot Work Precautions: Detailed guidance on safety measures and preventative actions.
Hot Work Procedures: Step-by-step instructions for obtaining permits and ensuring safe execution.
Fire Watch Duties: The role and responsibilities of a fire watch in hot work scenarios.
Conclusion: Reinforcement of key concepts and commitment to a culture of safety.
Interactive steps, flashcards, and matching in Rise were utilized to increase engagement.
The Hot Work Safety and Procedures course not only meets the specific training requirements outlined by the life insurance provider but also goes beyond, fostering a culture of safety among facilities managers. Learners are now equipped with the skills to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with hot work activities, contributing to a safer working environment.
This project showcases my expertise in learning experience design, taking an existing training program and transforming it into an interactive e-learning course tailored to the unique needs of facilities managers. The incorporation of interactive elements ensures engagement and knowledge retention, while the focus on practical application supports the overarching goal of enhancing workplace safety.
