ALICIANO'S TRADITIONS
PAGAY FESTIVAL
Balitok Ti Alicia, is one of its famous traditional events that happens every harvest season. It is a traditional story event that had dominated the hearts of the people. The so called “Pagay Festival” it is held annually every September 28 in conjunction with the founding anniversary of the town of Alicia. It used to be called Alicia Town Festival, but was redefined and renamed to Pagay Festival in 2010 by Mayor Cecilia Claire N. Reyes.
The festival aims to uphold the town’s cultural identity and heritage and to promote the municipality’s primary agricultural product called, pagay (Ilocano word for rice)- the municipality’s major livelihood economy and trade mark. The festival is widely participated by the community which features various competitions (e.g., rice planting, harvesting, and cooking among others), street dance showdown, beauty pageant (Mutya ng Alicia), battle of the bands, and exhibits.
However, the Pagay Parade is the main highlight of the festival that features decorated carabaos, various rice crop floats, and people marching with colorful costumes which attracts tourists and visitors.
ALICIANO'S CUSTOMS
Aliciano's cater the following customs that are common in every Pilipino. These are the following: pagmamano, paghalik sa mga magulang, pagbibigay galang sa nakakatanda sa pamamagitan ng “PO” at “OPO”, nagbibigay daan sa pag-upo ng mga matatanda sa sasakyan at iba pa. as well as the famous “Simbang Gabi” and “Bayanihan” that is part of Aliciano’s lives.
Bayanihan is part of this Municipality trough the years. It doesn't just show how friendly and kind the municipality but also it shows a strong foundation in which each Aliciano's had within them. A united team in which grows and expands its wings to reach out the others.
