"White Queen! You have to help me! Alice is on her way and we must convince her to save Wonderland!" exclaimed Rabbit as he ran into the Queen's bedroom in her lovely castle.
"Rabbit, can't you explain the situation to Alice? My sister is still under the Green King's spell. She is being rude to all people and animals for absolutely no reason at all! She is also insisting everyone around her only wear red now," said the White Queen with a frown on her face.
"Well, if I explain everything to her, then she will know I was never late for anything and she won't trust me. I can't tell her the truth until she knows what the Green King has done and will understand why we had to lie to her," explained the Rabbit.
"Okay, Rabbit. I will ask Alice for her help. When is she arriving?" asked the White Queen.
The Rabbit turned to look out the window just in time to see Alice walking over the cobblestone bridge that leads directly to the castle doors.
"Here she comes now! I must hide!" as Rabbit finished his sentence, he hopped away to another room and the Queen was walking quickly to meet Alice at the entrance.
'This place looks so wonderful,' thought Alice to herself. The castle was made of white stone with a dust of grey. There was a silver outlining on all visible doors and windows that gave the castle a magical touch. There were birds flying all around the castle and any animal you could imagine wandering on the ground. Suddenly, a tall figure with beautiful silvery hair and a white, tattered gown appeared through the door.
"Hello, Dear, you must be Alice," said the Queen. "Please, join me inside for a cup of tea. You must be famished after your trip."
"How do you know I have been traveling for long?" Alice asked with an unsure look on her face.
"I am the White Queen and I know almost everything that goes on in Wonderland. You might not be aware of this yet, but you are meant to help us defeat the Green King. He has turned my sister against me and taken people from their homes in all of Wonderland. He has stolen flowers, made animals his servants, and he tricked my sister and her friends into liking him so they will assist him with taking over the kingdom," explained the Queen.
"Why does he want to make Wonderland such an awful place? It is a bit confusing here, but it is still beautiful," said Alice.
"We were all friends when we were little, but as we got older we choose certain values to live by and tried to convince others to apply the values in their lives. I was given peace, which is why I cannot fight the Green King myself. I enjoy the color white because it gives a peaceful, calm environment. My sister was given love, so she enjoys decorating and wearing the color red. However, now being under the spell she is pushing this onto others around her. The Green King chose success, so he enjoys being surrounded by the color green. The three of us contributed to the kingdom in different ways and helped Wonderland find its balance. A few years ago the King lost his way and success turned into greed. He stopped caring about making others successful and wanted all the land and treasures in Wonderland to himself. That is why some people come a crossed as confused and things appear off right now. We are simply out of balance. Alice, if you would do us the honor of taking on the value of logic and reason to talk some sense into the Green King and make Wonderland a happy place again, I would be forever in debt to you," said the Queen.
Alice thought about her offer long and hard. "I am not sure I am fit to help guide others into making the right decision." said Alice.
"You are such a smart girl. You were clever enough to find your way here, and you stayed strong through all of your challenges. You can come and go as you please because I know Wonderland isn't your home, but we really do need your help Alice," said the Queen with a begging smile.
"Okay. I guess I can try to be logic. Is it okay if I use the color blue?" asked Alice.
"Indeed! We have a spare castle just a mile or so down the road that you can use while you are in Wonderland," said the Queen. "If you'll follow me inside I will show you our plan to get to the Green King. I think there is someone inside you will be more than happy to meet," the Queen said as she put one arm around Alice and led her inside to hear about her destiny.
Author's Note: The characters the White Queen and Red Queen are from Lewis Carroll's second novel, Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There. They are actually the two queens found on a chess board! In her first novel, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, she introduced the Queen of Hearts. This queen inspired my idea of having the queen in my story be rude. The Queen of Hearts is awful in the first book. She tries to have Alice's head cut off! She actually tries to have multiple people's heads cut off for no reason. She is not very friendly to animals. I kept these characteristics the same, but gave a reason and said it was out of character for her. The White Queen was very kind in Carroll's novels, but she was a bit more crazy than I made her out to be. Both queens do decorate and wear the color they associate with. That is why I chose to make the King green, and give a reason behind the color obsession. The two queens seemed to work together more in the second book, which gave me the idea to make them sisters in my story.
