The Borderlands (今際の国, Imawa no kuni) is a world that acts as a border between life and death, where the consciousness of multiple people, who suffer a near-death experience or clinical death, is sent to. The show is based on the manga series of the same name, originally written and illustrated by Haro Aso. The Netflix live-action was directed by Shinsuke Sato and written by Sato, Yoshiki Watabe, and Yasuko Kuramitsu. Its cast includes Kento Yamazaki, Tao Tsuchiya, Nijiro Murakami, Dori Sakurada, Aya Asahina, and others.
The show tells the story about multiple people who have suddenly been transported into an alternative reality, where they are forced to play deadly games in order to survive. Every game provides them with a visa, which prolongs their stay, while they are searching for a way to return to the world they are used to.
Season 1 of Alice in Borderland premiered on Netflix on December 10, 2020. On December 24, 2020, it was announced that the show was renewed for a second season, barely two weeks after its online debut[1][2], and the season premiered on Netflix on December 22, 2022. On September 27, 2023, it was announced that the third season of the show will be in the works.[3] Currently, Season 3 of Alice in Borderland is scheduled to be released on September 25, 2025.
