On Friday, May 15th, the Junior Class will host the annual Prom. Over the past several years, the ARHS APTO Board has been reviewing participation trends, event costs, and student feedback regarding the Junior Post Prom Party (JPPP). After surveying the Classes of 2025 and 2026, and most recently the Class of 2027, the Board carefully evaluated whether continuing a traditional post-prom event remains sustainable and aligned with current student interest.
In 2025, the JPPP was moved to Apex Entertainment in an effort to increase participation. However, approximately 60 tickets had been sold up to 24 hours before the event, with final attendance reaching about 160 students out of a junior class of more than 300. At the same time, hosting the event requires significant financial commitments, often exceeding $25,000 and requiring deposits months in advance.
Survey results from the Class of 2027 also indicated that a majority of students would prefer that resources be directed toward enhancing the Prom experience itself rather than hosting a separate post-prom event.
After reviewing participation trends, student feedback, safety considerations, and the financial sustainability of the program, the APTO Board voted not to move forward with the Junior Post Prom Party this year and moving forward. Instead, the APTO will focus its efforts on supporting enhancements to the Prom experience that can benefit more students. Our goal was to look at the data, listen to students, and make the most responsible decision for the community moving forward.
Student safety remains a priority. ARHS will continue to partner with Encompass to provide Prom safety programming focused on responsible decision making and safe celebrations. The APTO will also work with student leaders and school administration to gather input on ways to enhance Prom and create a memorable experience for future classes.
We look forward to working with the Class of 2027 to create the best possible Prom experience for this year’s celebration.
A survey of the Class of 2027 was conducted to better understand student interest in Prom, Pre-Prom, and Post-Prom activities. The results show that when asked how resources should be prioritized, most students indicated they would prefer enhancements to the Prom experience. The full survey results are available below for families who would like to review the complete data.
Based on student feedback, participation trends, and financial considerations, the APTO will focus its efforts on enhancing the Prom experience while continuing to prioritize student safety. The APTO will work closely with ARHS administration and student leaders to identify enhancements that create a memorable and inclusive celebration for the Class of 2027.
Each spring, the APTO partners with the Junior Class to host a special Sunrise Breakfast.
Juniors are invited to come together before school to enjoy breakfast treats, celebrate their hard work, and share in a fun tradition that brings the class closer as they prepare for their senior year.
It’s a wonderful way to start the day, build class spirit, and create lasting memories!
