We require black suit to be apart of the team. This is to look uniform at meets and in the team picture. We have gotten away from requiring a specific brand or style due to body types, preferences and what brands have in stock. We do have an agreement with Elsmore swim shop to get a percentage off of suits and equipment. These are our recommendations for suits but are not required to purchase.
As long the suit is black and is comfortable it is good to go!
Meets are not required to participate in the Wahoo season. They are a good indicator on how the swimmer can progress through the season. Swimmers are not required to go to every practice through the week. We ask swimmers to come to at least 2 practices a week to maintain their abilities especially leading into a meet week. This gives coaches an idea on how swimmers will perform and a chance to work on anything that would help with the success of the swimmer at the meet.
Swimmers and coaches will sign up for events to swim at the meet. Coaches have to send out entries to the meet host ahead of time, so there is some planning involved. After swimmers have signed up a entries have been verified by the coach, entries will be sent out to the team. This will give swimmers an idea where in the meet timeline the swimmers will be swimming.
Typically when we sign up we are signing swimmers up for 3 individual events and 2 relay events. These are what swimmers will get ribbons for. Swimmers are allowed to swim more than that. These extra events are called exhibition events. Swimmers get times for these events, but they will not get ribbons.
Hosting a home meet can be a rewarding day. We get to run a meet in our home territory. It is also a lot of work and takes many hands. Coaches will post a list of workers that are needed to help run a smooth meet. These workers include timers, officials, runners, concession stand, Clerk of Course/Hole workers, and others. Officials require extra training and courses. All the others can be explained before hand. The coaches will try to pair new members with veteran members to help new members understand what is going on.
To qualify for State and Regionals, a swimmer has to swim a time faster or equal to the qualification time for that meet. State qualification times are different than Regionals. Each age group and gender have a different set of qualification times, so it is important to make sure swimmers are looking at the right gender and age group.
Ribbons are how swimmers get their results from meets as a hard copy. The past couple of seasons it has worked out very well for swimmers to their ribbons at the End of Season Banquet. We try to have a little awards ceremony and give swimmers a pile of ribbons.
