From 19 to 22 January 2026, I conducted teaching observation in several classes, including Grade 7 STE, Grade 8 STE, Grade 11 STEM 1, and Grade 11 HUMSS 1. During this period, I learned about the Philippine K–12 curriculum, classroom management strategies, classroom rules, and time management in instructional delivery.
One important aspect I observed was the structure of the Philippine curriculum, which includes many student-centered activities. Teachers carefully manage time to ensure that discussions, group work, and assessments can be completed within the allotted period. Classroom rules were clearly explained, and students were trained to follow instructions actively and respectfully.
Although, There is a major difference I observed is that students in Philippine public schools are generally confident and capable in using English. Since English is widely used as a medium of instruction, students are accustomed to speaking and expressing their ideas in English during class discussions
Through this observation, I gained a better understanding of how lesson flow, student participation, and classroom control are balanced to create an effective learning environment.
From 26 to 29 January 2026, I conducted teaching practice in Grade 11 HUMSS 1 and Grade 11 STEM 1. The topics I taught were Spanish Colonial Literature and Plot in Literature.
During these sessions, I learned to understand the different personalities and learning styles of students. Some students were highly active and confident, while others needed encouragement to participate. Building bond with the students became an important part of my teaching process. By understanding their characteristics, I was able to adjust my teaching strategies and improve my lesson plan for the final demonstration.
This experience helped me improve my classroom management, communication skills, and confidence in delivering material. Compared to my first day of teaching practice, I became more comfortable and flexible in handling classroom situations.
On 30 January 2026, I conducted my final demonstration in Grade 11 STEM 1. The topic of the lesson was Genre in Literature, including drama, poetry, fiction, and non-fiction.
The lesson consisted of three main activities. The first activity was a group task where students defined each literary genre based on their understanding. The second activity was called “Sigma’s Auction.” In this activity, I presented several literary texts, and students competed by bidding to identify the genre. The group that won the bid explained why the text belonged to a particular genre in front of the class. The final activity required each group to produce a short example of one literary genre.
The lesson exceeded my expectations. Students were energetic and actively participated in every activity. I was able to manage the class confidently. I felt more natural in delivering instructions and responding to students. The evaluators gave positive feedback on my performance, and this experience showed significant growth in my teaching ability.
Lastly, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported me during my pre-service teaching at Vicente Andaya Senior National High School.
I am deeply thankful to my critic teacher, Sir Emmelito D. Marcelino, who patiently guided me in understanding how to deal with students in different situations. Through his guidance, I became more confident in managing the class and understanding students beyond their academic performance. I am also sincerely grateful to my mentor, Dr. Dina G. Reyes, for guiding me in developing and improving my lesson plans. Because of her mentorship, I became more organized and intentional in my teaching.
To my fellow all my pre-service teachers friends from CAPSU Burias, CAPSU Roxas, and CAPSU Sigma,. Espesiaclly To Wendy, Roy, and Shaina, thank you for being more than just colleagues throughout this journey.
