I was a bit stumped when thinking of an idea for this weeks project that had to be based on a futuristic theme. After going home and playing a game called Cyberpunk 2077 I though that I would like to model Johnny Silverhands gun. But the Malorian arms 3516 turned out to be really difficult and not to mention I was using a software I was unfamiliar with(Maya 2023). So, after a small go at it I quickly realised that I was stuck when I got to the main part of the gun and didn't really know what to do. I felt completely lost on how to approach it as I have never really modelled a 3d object using low quality images as my guide.
Knowing I still had time to do something on a lower complex scale, I quickly changed my idea and started looking for something else to model. After doing some searching on the internet I came across this image which I was struck by. For the next 4 hours I was busy away modelling this sword and watching small tutorials for tools such as the Boolean to get that rigid edge of the blade correct.
Once I felt like I had an accurate 3D model it was time to do some texturing and rendering. For this I decided to swap to Blender as this has better tools in this area of the field. To start this off I had to project the image of the sword onto the model of my sword which took some time and lots of minor adjustments to make it correct. After this I wanted to add some low tone orange lights to the model to represent the glowing parts on the picture to make it feel alive and give off that futuristic element. I also added a light and a box to the scene so that you could see the model and the box so that it didn't seem like it was floating in an empty space.
After that it was time to run a render!
I was really impressed with the outcome of this model even though I needed quite a lot of help when it came to texturing in blender as its a weak area of mine. the feedback mentions that some of the lines are off on the handle which could have done with a few minutes tweaking it but overall I'm very happy with this model and would say its one of my best to this date!
