This map describes the relative surface temperature of each region of Alexandria during July 2022.
Heat Vulnerability Index Scores for Alexandria Block Groups
This series of maps shows the Heat Vulnerability Index for each region of Alexandria. The map on the top left shows the overall score, which is the sum of three other components: exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity, and it determines how vulnerable a region is to UHIs. The exposure parameter (top right) describes the degree to which a region is exposed to sunlight. The sensitivity parameter (bottom left) describes the density of high-risk groups in a region, such as those over 65 years old. The adaptive capacity parameter describes the ability of a region to implement mitigation strategies to reduce vulnerability. This series of maps describe the overall heat vulnerability of a region separated by its vulnerable population groups, such as children under 5 years old or those who are disabled.

This map shows the overall heat vulnerability of Alexandria by regional block groups.
Walkable Levels of Service for Play Stations Map
This map shows how accessible certain open and recreational spaces are. As the color gets darker, the more accessible the site is.

Heat Islands in Northern Virginia
This interactive map displays the urban heat islands in northern Virginia (the user can zoom in on Alexandria specifically) and shows the geographic relationship between UHIs and developments (both green and urban). The areas in red on the thermal map are where the Urban Heat Island temperature is higher and the opposite is true for the blue areas. The areas in red on the development map correspond to urban development and the areas in green on this map correspond to parks and open spaces.
