I started coaching my eldest child's soccer team in 2014 and learned to love coaching. The usual routine of weeknight practices and weekend games worked fine until my younger children were also old enough to play soccer, and our one-car family couldn't easily make the scheduling work. I started looking for other options, and in 2019 decided to try something different. There was so much interest that in 2020 I started the Homeschool Soccer Club of Alexandria, LLC. This is a community service organization, meant to enrich our families.
Families living in Northern Virginia often experience the hectic pace at which this area operates. With so many activities and so many places to go and things to do, it can get very busy very quickly. When families have more than one or two children, the busyness can get out of control.
As homeschoolers, we have an opportunity to use weekday afternoons for some of those activities, in order to leave time open in our evenings and weekends to be at home as a family. The goal of this club is to bring families together, instead of separate them as they each go to different practices and games every weeknight and weekend. To this end, all of our practices and games for all ages are held at the same time and place, Wednesday afternoons, from 2:00 to 3:30pm.
The Homeschool Soccer Club of Alexandria is committed to quality. We provide training for all coaches at the beginning of the season so they can lead their teams with confidence. Our goal is to teach kids basic soccer skills, teach them how to play together as a team, and help them have a lot of fun. Even more importantly, in this club we teach children that people are more important than winning, and the goal is to do our best and improve ourselves and our team. Good sportsmanship is a top priority.
