Educators facilitate learning by integrating computational thinking practices into the classroom. Since computational thinking is a foundational skill, educators develop every student’s ability to recognize opportunities to apply computational thinking in their environment. Educators:
5.a Evaluate and use CS and CT curricula, resources and tools that account for learner variability to meet the needs of all students.
5.b Empower students to select personally meaningful computational projects.
5.c Use a variety of instructional approaches to help students frame problems in ways that can be represented as computational steps or algorithms to be performed by a computer.
5.d Establish criteria for evaluating CT practices and content learning that use a variety of formative and alternative assessments to enable students to demonstrate their understanding of age-appropriate CS and CT vocabulary, practices and concepts.
5.a: The use of TelloDrones was very flexible and fun for the students to engage with. Almost every student of any age or learning capability can participate in this level of coding. So long as the student can interpret commands and actions, this activity is enjoyable for all young learners. It was such a great experience to see each student working with one another to create a launch sequence!
5.b: The TelloDrones provide students with an unforgettable STEM experience. It can be meaningful to students with an expansion of interests, such as coding, air crafts, military, computers, etc. This opportunity inspires students to engage in projects that are meaningful to them, and encourages continued STEM exploration. Through our activity, we were able to facilitate a love of learning.
5.c: Our implementation of Artificial Intelligence throughout the semester has been an integral piece to the work and activities we have produced. With the instructional approach of AI, an educator can expand deeper in any given category. Our most influential use of AI can be reflected through our STaR Hero Journey stories, as we were able to write a cohesive short story to tie into our activities.Â
