Research 

A control-based research of roughly 400 students in the 7th and 8th grades revealed that those who participated in three online field trips created for social studies and language arts classrooms performed better on a national reading comprehension test than those who simply participated in traditional educational activities. These virtual field trips are regarded to work best when they are accompanied by specific instructional support materials that can benefit teachers and captivate students.
