Price: 100 Euros
“I used to think nurses were women
I used to think police were men
I used to think poets were boring
Until I became one of them.”
( Benjamin Zephaniah)
Poems are a very versatile resource to use with EFL learners. They are short, manageable texts that range from the most simple, linguistically and conceptually, to the more complex. There is something there for any age and level. They help to develop pronunciation and rhythm, expand vocabulary and develop an appreciation of the language while exploring other topics. There is a liberty in poetry that will encourage learners to lose their fear and write something themselves. This course covers a wide range of poems that can be selected to create different DUs / Learning Situations, and can be incorporated into all kinds of topics. – love, joy, humour, prejudice, age, grief, ecology, childhood and growing up and so much more. Suggestions and topic packs are on the google classroom.

SHAKESPEARE. Part one - TIME TRAVEL TO SHAKESPEARE'S WORLD
With the help of the time-travel YA novel, King of Shadows, by Susan Cooper, and other original material, this module shows how to take learners into Shakespeare’s world and give them a flavour of what daily life was like compared with Spain at the time, and compared with their own lives: Shakespeare’s house, eating and drinking, sleeping, keeping clean, clothes, education, earning a living, children and parents, all the smells and tastes of life and ….. what happened in the mystery ‘Lost Years’ of Shakespeare before he appeared in London as a known playwright and actor?
At the end of the module you will have the structure and materials for an active, collaborative teaching unit that trains learners to do research and present their findings, to become familiar with Shakespeare’s time and relate it to Spain, and to their own lives.
SHAKESPEARE - Part two – THE MAGIC OF SHAKESPEARE . .
Murder, love, ambition, magic, superstition, revenge, ghosts ...
Wait! Are we talking about popular films … soap operas? No. We are talking about Shakespeare and how his magic with words breathed life into these themes, so that people still call English ‘the language of Shakespeare’.
Why is Shakespeare still relevant and exciting now? In this module we aim to show how the universal themes that are the motor of Shakespeare’s plays are all around us today, and how to harness them, with Shakespeare, to develop English with our learners, creating active, exciting, DUs / Learning Situations.
At the end of the module you will have the structure and materials for active, collaborative teaching units that use Shakespeare's plays and themes as a reference to create active and imaginative Didactic Units /Learning Situations for your students, incorporating all the competences and skills that they need to develop and that are relevant to their own lives.
SCIENCE FICTION: PAST AND PRESENT VISIONS OF THE FUTURE.
How did writers in the past envision the future? What do writers today think the future will be like? We look at some key stories in the history of science fiction, what real events inspired them, and the stories being written today that are relevant to our lives. This entertaining course explores how to use Science Fiction and Dystopian stories with EFL learners to create innovaitve teaching units and invites critical thinking and curiosity.
WHO ARE THE SPIES?
We look at the evolution of spy stories and the stories of some real spies. Who are the writers? Who are the spies? How are they recruited? How do they reflect history and the world we live in today?
