Allegiance Elite is a music/dance education program for youths aged 12 - 21 regardless of previous training. The primary season for Allegiance Elite is during the summer months when the greatest amount of rehearsal and touring takes place. The corps spends the summer performing in parades and community events through Canada and the USA, including several Drum Corps International sponsored events. Allegiance Elite is a division II corps in DCI. Originally founded in 1985 by a dedicated group of marching music enthusiasts, Allegiance Elite has developed a rich tradition of excellence in the Calgary and international marching music scene. From its humble beginnings as a youth group, ALLEGIANCE, a Marching Brass Ensemble, has amassed a history of praise and awards unparalleled by any other marching music program in Canada. They went inactive in 2004, came back in 2005, went inactive again in 2006, and dissolve in 2020.
The Calgary Cavaliers was a junior marching and maneuvering corps based in Calgary, Alberta. They were active in Class A-60 in the late 1980s. Under the name 1st Canadian Cavaliers, the corps competed in DCA national competition in 1985, finishing 14th in Class A competition. The Calgary Cavaliers were the longest running organization in Calgary as a Drum Corps. They were formed in the early 1970's and existed until the merge with Allegiance in 1989.
Allegiance Elite and The Strutters of Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta announced they are combining corps to form a partnership under the name “Fusion Drum and Bugle Corps” for the summer of 2004. Fusion will participate in Div II/III for the upcoming season and will be competing in the western circuit. Fusion’s program for the 2004 year was called “Essence of Spirit” and will feature music composed by Stephen Melillo. The selections to be performed are Godspeed, The Touchstone … a prayer before battle, The Chosen and Wait of the World. The members of the Strutters and Allegiance are looking forward to marching under the Fusion banner in their bid to make drum and bugle corps stronger in Alberta and to recapture the enthusiasm from years gone by for the activity. They dissolve after their 2004 season.
The Edmonton Strutters Drum & Bugle Corps was a modern style youth drum & bugle corps in Edmonton, Alberta that was founded in 1963. They had competed on and off over the years in Drum Corps International and Winter Guard International events. They had attempted to rebuild their program with the end goal of returning to Drum Corps International competition. In 2010, The Strutters became inactive as the organization restructured.
The Calgary North Star Show Band was a 12-22 year old to an all age marching show band group of instrumental musicians who perform while marching, often for entertainment or competition. Instrumentation typically includes brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. Calgary North Star Show Band was the pep band for UofC, and then it became the official band to the UofC "University of Calgary". It's unknown when they went inactive.
