Benefits for Striking Members from OEA Relief Fund
Members who actively participate in a legal, sanctioned strike receive $120 a day from the OEA Relief Fund during the Strike. Participation does not have to just be picketing; any sanctioned strike activities count. We will be inclusive of member abilities when providing strike activities. Members will receive their $120/day strike relief by the end of the month of November, if not earlier.
In addition to daily strike benefits, members can apply for a grant of up to $300 from OEA for unanticipated emergencies, such as utilities, medications, or any type of urgent need that may arise. More details about applying will be available soon. A small subgroup of the local financial crisis committee will be reviewing and approving grant applications. Here is the criteria they are working with that we will need to distribute to members.
In addition to strike benefits and grant funds, members can request reimbursement from OEA of interest for loans taken out during the strike period, for loans up to $500. Reimbursement can be requested for interest on loans after they have been repaid.
