Building the Schools Albany Deserves—Strong Educators, Stronger Futures

Welcome to GAEA

Nearly three months have passed since the resolution of our strike, and I want to take a moment to reflect on what we have accomplished and where we go from here. This strike was never just about pay—it was about respect, working conditions, and ensuring that our students and staff have what they need to feel safe and thrive. Through our solidarity, perseverance, and collective action, we secured meaningful gains that will positively impact our schools for years to come.

Standing together, we demonstrated our commitment to safe working environments, fair wages, and professional respect. We made it clear that the voices of educators matter and that we will not back down when our students' futures are at stake. The strength of our union was evident in every picket line, community conversation, and act of support we received. We should all be incredibly proud of what we achieved.

However, our work does not end here. A contract is only as strong as our ability to enforce it. Moving forward, we must remain engaged—holding the district accountable, ensuring that new contract provisions are implemented effectively, and advocating for continued improvements in our schools. We will also focus on strengthening our union, supporting each other, and preparing for the challenges ahead.

I want to personally thank each and every one of you for your dedication, resilience, and unwavering belief in our cause. This fight has reinforced the power of collective action and the necessity of standing up for what is right. Let’s carry this momentum forward as we continue to build a stronger, more just educational community.

In Solidarity,

Dana Lovejoy
