The Global Project is about comparing technology in foreign countries other than the U.S. This project compares China and the Philippines and their various similarities and differences in technological usage and culture. Additionally, general population information and more specific technological aspects of society like e-waste management and digital divide within nations, are discussed in the project.
An interesting fact I learned while working on this project is that the Philippines has much more access to technology than I previously assumed as the average citizen averages 10 hours of screen time a day according to some surveys! In regards to China, I learned that they are actually trying to limit screen time in kids as it has been deemed an area of concern which is surprising in today's age.
I learned through this project that different countries have much different relationships with technology both compared to each other and to what I know in America. China is has a very large tech usage amongst their society and so does the Philippines, however China has a particularly bad relationship with technology and labor. Many corporations in the tech sector have abusive labor hours. I did not know these things before completing the project and I was surprised to learn this. In terms of skills I learned, I improved my ability to work on powerpoints with other people as I had not done that in a long time and had forgotten how 2 students can work together at the same time, online, which is valuable to know for future projects, even outside CSIT. Working online, made it very easy to collaborate because me and my partner could actively see what the other was doing so we would not waste time explaining what was being done.
